MIKROREGION DOLNY HRON

Territory of the region of the Dolný Hron is spread in the southern part of the district
Levice which it belongs to.
Centre of the region is town Želiezovce.
The western part of the region forms the Hron plateau - a part of the Podunajská lowland,
the eastern part is an undulating land and passes to a hilly terrain and then to lowlands
along the Ipeľ river. Through the middle of the area flows the Hron river which are villages
settled along and then it joins the Danube river at Štúrovo.
The whole extension of this territory is 47.443ha.

Area of the region is connected with important Slovak centres by national highways: state
road 1/75 Nové Zámky - Tekovské Lužany - Veľký Krtíš and state road 1/76 Žiar nad
Hronom - most of villages of the region - Štúrovo the frontier crossing to Hungary.
Railway passes villages Tekovské Lužany - Želiezovce - Hronovce - Pohronský Ruskov and
Čata in the direction of Štúrovo.
Geographical location and nature conditions are very suitable for intensive agricultural
exploitation and processing industry. In view of agrotourism this region is a very
interesting area because of large cultivated fields of vine (Šalov, Sikenica, Farná,
Plavé Vozokany),
fishing and hunting fields in the whole region (Želiezovce, Keť, Plavé Vozokany,
Tekovské Lužany, Farná, Veľké Ludince, Šalov, Nýrovce),
active exploitation of equestrian and water sports (Želiezovce, Hronovce),
historical and cultural monuments in town Želiezovce, Tekovské Lužany, Nýrovce,
Sikenica, Čaka and other,
a wide offer of board and lodging for more demanding people.
Through the region passes a cycle-tourist path and " the Wine road" of the Dolné Pohronie
and the Južné Podunajsko.
Traditional hosts of folk festivals are villages Čaka, Plavé Vozokany, Kuralany and
Želiezovce.
