Monuments listed in UNESCO Index of World Cultural Heritage
The following monuments were included in this list at the end of 1993:
Banská Štiavnica - An example of Slovakia´s mining tradition, in the magnificent vale of Štiavnické vrchy. It is a protected urban area with a wealth of historical, cultural, artistic and technological monuments. In 1763 it became the home of the Academy of Mining, the first mining college in Europe.
Spišský hrad - National cultural monument, largest mediaeval castle in Central Europe (12th century)
Spišské Podhradie - Village on the route from Poprad-Levoča-Prešov is the direct entry point to Spišský hrad (emerged in the 12th century)
Spišská Kapitula - Protected urban area with remarkable monuments. Emerged as a separate church community on the St. Martins Knoll. Accessible from Spišské Podhradie.
Žehra - Village whose prime feature is the Early Gothic Church of the Holy Spirit.
Vlkolínec - Village in the foothills, 718m above sea level. The first reference to it dates back to 1376. Today a part of the town Ružomberok, from where it is accessible to the public. Vlkolínec is now a protected monument to folk architecture situated in the natural surroundings of the Veľká Fatra.
